Ashley is our Chief Investment Officer and leads the investment management and trading operations teams.
Ashley returned to New Zealand from London in 2013 to join the team. Previous investment experience was gathered in his 10 years of working in the world of mergers & acquisitions where he held responsibility for leading teams on acquisitions, divestitures and capital raising. Other senior leadership roles in London included managing the corporate finance group at RBS and ABN AMRO.
Chief Investment Strategist Mark Brighouse
BMS Finance (Hons), Waikato University
As Chief Investment Strategist, Mark is our dedicated expert for portfolio construction and risk management. This draws on his allocation, currency, and portfolio management experience from his roles as Managing Director at Brook Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer for Arcus Investment Management.
He is also a member of our ESG Committee.
Head of Trading Angela Quirk
BBS (Economics & Finance), Massey
Angela oversees all investment-related transactions across the firm as well as the investment operations and reporting team.
Angela first joined us as a Fixed Income Manager and was quickly promoted to Head of Trading in 2015.
Prior to this, Angela worked at Grosvenor Financial Services as a Fixed Income Manager for three years. Before then, she worked at AMP Capital for five years, first as a Dealers Assistant for Fixed Income and Equities before being promoted to Analyst - Property and Alternative Assets.
Angela has in-depth knowledge of all aspects of fixed income management including government and corporate bonds, interest rate swaps, and cash management products.
Head of Fixed Income David McLeish
BBS (Economics), Massey University
David is responsible for the oversight of all the fixed income and cash portfolios. He is also a member of the Investment Committee and oversees the tactical asset allocation of the diversified portfolios.
Prior to joining us, David held senior fixed income roles in London. He was Executive Director at Goldman Sachs, Director at UBS Investment Bank and Associate at Morgan Stanley.
Head of Direct Property Brent Buchanan
BBS (Property), Massey University
Brent is responsible for the performance of an investment portfolio comprised of regional shopping centres, CBD office buildings and prime industrial properties located throughout New Zealand.
He sets the Fund's investment strategy, researching and recommending property disposals and acquisitions, leading both project and development teams, the overview of an externalised management team, and developing risk mitigation strategies.
Prior to joining us, Brent worked at Tower Investments for five years and AMP Capital for 14 years.

Head of Portfolio Management Daniel Collett

With 14 years of experience, Dan is our Head of Portfolio Management and is responsible for management and trade implementation across the firm’s multi asset portfolios as well as oversight of all equity and foreign exchange trading ensuring efficient market access.
Previous experience was gained at Sabre Fund Management in London where he worked in analytical and trading roles.
Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and Senior Fixed Income Trader Greg Hayton
Bachelor’s Degree (Business Admin, Finance), Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut
Greg is our Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and Senior Fixed Income Trader. He has over 23 years of industry experience, with 15 years at Kiwi Wealth before joining us. Previously he was the portfolio manager for the NZ Fixed Income Portfolio, and a senior trader for the fixed income funds.
Previous experience was gained at Cruice Investment Advisors in Westport CT U.S.A. where he worked for seven years.
Greg is part of our eight-strong centralised trading team.
Senior Portfolio Manager Sam Dickie

Sam leads both the international equity and property and infrastructure teams.
As an experienced investment professional, Sam spent 13 years offshore holding roles at Moore Capital in both Hong Kong and Bennelong Asset Management in London.
Senior Portfolio Manager Robbie Urquhart
MBS (Finance), Massey University
BCom (Agricultural Economics), Stellenbosch University
Robbie is responsible for managing the portfolio design, construction, and risk assessment of Australian equities. Robbie has worked as a portfolio manager and analyst since 2001, in both New Zealand and London, where he held various roles with Trafalgar Copley, Copenhagen Capital, and FNZC.
He is the Chair of our ESG Committee.
Portfolio Manager Quinn Casey
BMS (Economics & Finance) (Hons), University of Waikato
Quin oversees all credit investments across our portfolios. He is also the primary credit analyst for companies that operate in the utility and industrial sectors.
Before joining the team, Quin spent eight years in London with Aviva Investors as a Credit Analyst analysing the debt issued by European power companies before focusing on investing in the European High Yield market.
Portfolio Manager Matt Peek
BCom (Finance), BSc (Mathematics & Statistics), Auckland University
Matt joined the team in 2017 to support the investment decision making processes focusing on the transport, retail, property and offshore infrastructure sectors. In October 2022 he was promoted to Portfolio Manager of the New Zealand Growth Fund.
Previous experience was gained at Craig’s Investment Partners where he worked as an equity research analyst. Before this, Matt worked at Macquarie Bank in investment banking for nine years.
Portfolio Manager - International Equities Harry Smith

The consumer and financials sectors are Harry’s area of expertise within our international equity fund.
Previous investment experience was gained when Harry spent nine years working in wholesale trading in Wellington and London, followed by four years as an equity analyst for a fund manager, Farr, Miller & Washington in Washington DC. Harry returned to New Zealand in 2016 and was the global equity strategist at investment bank Jarden before joining us in 2017. After four years as a Senior Investment Analyst, Harry was promoted to the Portfolio Manager role in 2022.
Senior Investment Analyst Delano Gallagher

Delano is one of our Senior Investment analysts responsible for researching Australian companies.
Prior to this he spent two years lecturing Finance and Accounting in South Africa and worked for Allan Gray (Africa’s largest privately owned investment management company) in both Cape Town and London.
Senior Investment Analyst Lyle McNee

MSc (Banking & Finance), Queen Mary University of London
Lyle’s primary research responsibility is to conduct credit research on financial service operators, banks, insurance companies, and securitised products.
Previous industry experience was gained at Bloomberg in London where he was responsible for providing customised solutions to buy and sell side clients across fixed income and equity asset classes.
Senior Investment Analyst Michael Bacon
BA (Economics), BCom (Accounting & Finance), University of Auckland; ICAANZ
Michael’s responsibilities focus on the aged care, airports, ports and offshore infrastructure sectors.
In 2020, Michael returned home from London where he worked as an investor at private equity house BGF supporting investee companies at board level with mergers and acquisitions activity, executive hiring, international expansion and financing initiatives.
Prior to that Michael worked in private equity at Pioneer Capital in Auckland and began his career at KPMG.
Senior Investment Analyst Terry Tolich

Terry is one of our Senior Investment Analysts responsible for researching Australian companies.
Previous experience was gained as a Senior Industrial Analyst at Goldman Sachs where he covered the retail and building materials sectors. His work has also involved a range of corporate advisory, M&A, and equity capital markets transactions as part of the investment banking teams of Barclays de Zoete Wedd New Zealand (now Barclays Investment Bank) and subsequently Ord Minnett Wealth Management
Senior Investment Analyst Chris Waters
BE (Engineering Science), BCom (Finance), University of Auckland
As a senior investment analyst, Chris focuses on the healthcare sector within the international equity fund.
Prior to joining the team in 2014, Chris worked in corporate finance, most recently as an Associate Director at KPMG Auckland where he worked on several prominent transactions and IPOs. From 2007 to 2013 Chris was based in London working in the corporate finance teams at accounting firms PwC and BDO, where he was responsible for the valuation of European private companies across a range of industries.

Matt is the lead credit analyst covering consumer-related, telecom, media, and technology companies and is a senior member of the fixed income investment team,
Matt joined us in 2006 after completing his studies in Otago.
Macro Investment Analyst Luke O'Donovan
BBS (Accounting & Finance), Auckland University of Technology
Luke is responsible for the build-out of our macroeconomic research, alternative assets, carbon markets, equity fundamental analysis and risk management capabilities.
Luke joined the team as a reporting analyst before being promoted to the newly created role of Macro Investment Analyst in May 2021. This promotion continues our established practice of career progression.
Investment Analyst - International Equities Daniel Moser
BSc (Economics & Finance), MBA (Finance), University of Alabama at Birmingham
Joining the team in September 2021, Daniel works within the international equity team as one of four analysts focusing on the sectors of telecommunications and infrastructure.
Daniel’s career has included H.R.L Morrison & Co where he worked in the investment team providing financial analysis, financial modelling, valuation, and commercial support relating to PPP, infrastructure, and property transactions. Previously, Daniel worked at ASB Bank on corporate and M&A financing transactions covering a wide range of industries.
Daniel has passed CFA Level 1.
Investment Analyst - International Equities Lily Zhuang

Starting her career as a graduate at PwC in Transaction Services, Lily conducted financial due diligence on M&A deals across a range of industries.
Until most recently, Lily was a research analyst at Jarden, focusing on the consumer retail, retirement, and transport sectors.
Lily is one of four analysts within our international equity team and focuses on the consumer sector.
Fixed Income Analyst Ben Wilton
BA (Economics), University of California, Berkeley
Commencing his investment profession at Kiwi Wealth as an intern, Ben was promoted to a Fixed Income Analyst role where he was responsible for adding and monitoring high yield and investment grade credits.
Ben became part of our seven-strong fixed interest team in March 2023. He has completed Level 1, CFA.
Investment Compliance Analyst Philip Tong
BCom (Economics & Finance), University of Auckland
In May 2021 Philip started in the newly created role as the dedicated compliance analyst within the trading team.
Philip is responsible for monitoring compliance of the funds as well as regulatory obligations within the investment area. Prior to joining the team, he worked at Fletcher Building as a Strategy and Portfolio Analyst.
Philip brings strong analytical skills to the team and is a great example of how we actively promote career progression within the firm.
Philip has passed his Level 2, CFA exam.
Data Analytics Engineer Eliza Adams
BSc (Finance & Marketing), Oregon State University
Eliza is focusing on the development of a new database for the investment team to improve data quality and efficiencies.
This work utilises her python and SQL coding skills and will enable the investment team to gain more company and portfolio insights through data. This includes all carbon intensity metrics we are currently monitoring.
Investment Associate Kade Kampshof
BCom (Economics & Finance), BSc (Statistics) University of Auckland
Kade works within the middle office where he is responsible for performance reporting, consultant survey data, daily cash flows, and portfolio data analytics.
Kade started his financial services career at MMC as a unit pricing analyst before joining the team in 2021.
He is a CFA Level 2 candidate.
