How much can I withdraw for my first home?

Check your KiwiSaver balance and work out how much you might be able to take out.

If you're eligible for a first home withdrawal you probably want to know how much you can withdraw.

When working out how much you could withdraw there are few things you may want to consider:

  • Factor in that you must leave a minimum of $1000 in your KiwiSaver account,
  • Be aware you cannot withdraw any amount transferred from a complying Australian superannuation scheme,
  • And, check your KiwiSaver HomeStart grant eligibility. You could get up to $5,000 for an existing home or $10,000 for a new build which could significantly boost your deposit. Contact Housing New Zealand Corporation for criteria.

Top tip: At this stage, it may be worthwhile contacting your KiwiSaver provider asking them to provide you with confirmation of how much you a able to withdraw - this will make it easier for your lender to calculate a pre-approval sum when your looking to purchase or put an offer on a property.

If your a Kiwi Wealth KiwiSaver Scheme member you can request confirmation by contacting questions@kiwiwealth.co.nz
