Introducing Hatch, a new way to invest in the US share markets

At Kiwi Wealth, our goal is to help our members and clients grow and protect their wealth.

We’ve always believed, when it comes to investing, that opportunity and risk is best diversified through investing in global markets, and this principle underpins our investment strategy across all our products.

At the same time, we want to empower our members and give them the tools they need to make the most of their investments, whether this is helping them grow their KiwiSaver investment through Future You®, or by transforming how Kiwis get access to financial advice.

While many people want to engage an investment manager to invest their portfolios, others may want to manage their own investments directly – or have a combination of approaches, based on how they see their investments working for them. When it comes to investing, Kiwis want choice.

Introducing Hatch

With that goal in mind, and after interviewing hundreds of people, yesterday we announced the launch of Hatch, a new digital investment platform that gives New Zealanders easy and affordable access to the US share markets.

Hatch is designed for people who understand investing, who want an easier way to find and purchase US shares and invest on their terms.

HatchHatch allows anyone to invest and diversify a portion of their portfolios themselves by purchasing shares in over 2,700 of the world’s best-known companies, including well-known brands like Nike, Tesla and Apple. Hatch also allows investors to purchase shares in more than 450 US listed exchange traded funds (ETFs).

Fraction with no friction

And if you want to buy a share like Amazon, but don’t have enough funds to buy a whole share? Not a problem: Hatch is the first of its kind to offer fractional investing in New Zealand, letting you buy portions of shares of companies that could otherwise be too expensive.

Access to the US share markets is just the beginning. Longer-term, the Hatch team has bigger plans to change the landscape of finance in New Zealand and will work closely with investors to shape the future of the offering.
