Steffan is our Head of Quantitative Strategy, responsible for the development of our quantitative investment strategies. He also heads the development of Responsible Investment for Kiwi Wealth.
Steffan joined us after nine years in London at AHL, one of the biggest managed futures funds in the world. His responsibilities were primarily in portfolio construction and risk management, as well as developing and managing the new research pipeline.
Steffan has significant experience in both quantitative analysis and quantitative strategy, including developing, executing and risk-managing rule-based strategies. He also has a broad knowledge of global financial markets, from shares and bonds to futures, swaps, and options. He combines this knowledge with a pragmatic hands-on approach, bringing together technical analysis with fundamental market understanding and actual client requirements to create investment portfolios that are well-positioned to deliver superior returns over time.
Steffan has a BSc in maths and physics, a Masters of financial mathematics (insurance maths) from Victoria University, and a PhD in mathematical finance (high dimensional option pricing) from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands.
Portfolio Manager, NZ Equities Frank Braden
Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Master of Business Administration, CFA Charterholder
Frank is the portfolio manager of the New Zealand Equities Fund.
Frank brings a truly global perspective to his role, with experience selecting stocks in financial markets around the world, including time spent as an Equity Analyst at Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Capital IQ, both in New York and London.
With over 20 years in investment industries across the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand, Frank’s experience includes investment consulting at Marquette Associates, and developing equity investment strategies as an Equity Strategist at Macquarie Group.
Frank has a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He is also a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of New Zealand.
Head of Trading Daniel Collett
Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics and Finance, Masters of Science in Finance and Accounting
Dan is Head of Trading for equities, derivatives and FX, working closely with the Portfolio Managers on trade implementation and ensuring efficient market access. Dan is responsible for trade execution and managing broker relationships as well as providing support to the wider investment team. He also actively develops and enhances the trading architecture and reports to the Head of Portfolio Management.
Dan joins the team from London with over a decade of trading experience. Prior to joining, he was Head of Trading at Sabre Fund Management running global quantitative equity strategies.
Dan holds a BSC in Business, Economics and Finance from Loughborough University (UK) and an MSC in Finance and Accounting from Birkbeck University (UK).
Head of Thematic Equities Nathan Field
Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics, Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies
Nathan is the Portfolio Manager for the Global Thematic portfolio. He is responsible for portfolio construction, risk management and security selection.
His main role is stock-picking – identifying, analysing and monitoring the most suitable investments in global share markets.
With 15 years of experience in the investment industry, Nathan’s career has taken him from New Zealand to Sydney and London. His extensive experience includes roles as a Senior Equity Analyst and Director at ABN Amro, and Asian Markets Adviser for Macquarie Bank, where he marketed investment ideas to hedge funds.
Nathan has a BA (Hons) in economics and a Post-Graduate Diploma in development studies from Massey University.
Head of Fixed Interest Diana Gordon
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, PhD in Chemistry
Diana is the Head of Fixed Interest, with ultimate responsibility for fixed interest investing.
Her expertise lies not only in her deep understanding of corporate analysis but in her ability to look for relative value in multiple markets. She is adept at quickly assessing and acting on market-moving information, at both a macro and micro level, as well as looking for opportunities in volatile markets.
Diana brings a breadth of experience to her role, as well as skills spanning multiple asset classes and a wide range of industries, across three continents – Europe, America and Australasia
Diana has almost 25 years in investment industries, with experience running fixed interest portfolios in London and New York. She has worked in senior positions at Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Saudi International Bank (an affiliate of JPMorgan). Diana joined Kiwi Wealth in 2012.
Diana has a BSc in chemistry with a specialisation in materials for microelectronics from Strathclyde University, as well as a PhD in chemistry from Cambridge University.
NZ Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and Head of Cash Greg Hayton
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance
As a Fixed Interest Trader, Greg is responsible for managing the fixed interest portfolio.
Greg joined us in 2008 and his responsibilities include managing and trading for the fixed interest strategy and improving our fixed interest management systems. These improvements enhance our ability to trade and quickly buy and sell securities in fixed interest portfolios.
With 15 years in the investment industry, Greg has a comprehensive knowledge of both New Zealand Capital Markets, and the various fixed interest ‘instruments’, including corporate and government bonds and interest rate derivatives. He understands what drives investor funds into each fixed interest category and this expertise enables him to seek out optimal investment opportunities, while also ensuring investments that have unsatisfactory risk/reward characteristics are avoided.
Greg has a BSc from Sacred Heart University, Connecticut, America, with a double major in business administration and finance.
Quantitative Strategist Vinko Marinovic
Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance
Vinko is a Quantitative Strategist in our Quantitative Investment team. His key responsibilities include portfolio construction, researching and developing new models to enhance alpha and, helping to maintain a suite of quantitative models for the Global Quantitative Portfolio.
Before joining, Vinko was the Quantitative Analyst at Fisher Funds Management in Auckland. There, he helped to construct and manage an international quantitative equity portfolio and assisted in creating models to drive tactical asset allocation decisions. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, double majoring in Economics and Finance from the University of Otago. Vinko has passed CFA Level Two, and plans to sit the final level next year.
He has an interest in applying machine learning techniques to the financial marks, as well as in developing alternative datasets to track macroeconomic activity.
Quantitative SQL Developer Brad Moore
Bachelor of Science with Honours in Management Information Systems and Technology
Brad has had more than a decade of experience as a data and analytics consultant, and has worked with over a hundred clients from around the globe. He's taken leading roles on a number of data-focused teams, most recently with Summerset where he helped establish their new national business intelligence operation.
Brad graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with honours and high distinction, where he studied Management Information Systems and Technology (BSc) as well as philosophy. More recently, he passed the CISSP exam and has also gained certification as an Azure Data Scientist.
Credit Portfolio Manager Robert Murray

Rob joins us as Global Fixed Interest Credit Analyst, supporting Diana Gordon, Head of Fixed Interest, with the fixed interest investment strategy. Rob is responsible for assisting with identifying and evaluating potential investment opportunities, as well as with the ongoing monitoring of the fixed interest portfolio.
Rob brings deep credit investing experience to his role, having spent a significant portion of his career in the UK investing in complex subordinated credit transactions.
He has over a decade’s worth of investing experience, most of which he gained in London, where he began his career at UBS in investment banking, before moving to MV Credit. Since moving to Australasia in 2014, Rob has held a number of diverse roles in the finance and investment industry.
Rob has a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics.
Equity Analyst Olivia Nelson
Bachelor of Commerce with Honors in International Business, Bachelor of Commerce in International Business, Commercial Law and Marketing
Olivia’s primary responsibilities are research analysis on listed companies, generating investment theses, as well as the ongoing monitoring of the Global Thematic portfolio.
Prior to joining Kiwi Wealth, Olivia was the Portfolio Analyst at TFO providing support in analysis, investment strategy, reporting, fund manager selection, IMA coordination, and process creation. Olivia also has experience in risk, compliance and capital provisioning from her time at ANZ.
Olivia holds a First-Class Honors degree in International Business and a Bachelor of Commerce triple majoring in International Business, Commercial Law and Marketing from Victoria University of Wellington. She is currently working towards becoming a CFA charter holder.
Quantitative Developer Paul Shucksmith
Bachelor of Science in Physics, Masters of Science in Physics, and PhD in Physics
Paul is our quantitative developer, responsible for developing and maintaining code for our quantitative trading strategies. He also contributes to managing our quantitative portfolios and developing and testing portfolio strategies.
Paul has over 10 years of quantitative programming experience and a strong scientific and mathematical background. Prior to joining Kiwi Wealth, he worked at MetService as a research scientist in the modelling team.
Paul has a BSc, MSc and PhD in Physics from the University of Auckland.
Senior Equity Analyst Johnson Weng
Bachelor of Commerce in Economics
Johnson is a Senior Analyst focused on global equities.
He is responsible for research analysis on companies with an international mandate, generating investment thesis and assisting in portfolio construction of the Global Thematic Fund.
Prior to joining Kiwi Wealth, Johnson was an Investment Analyst at Mercer working on asset allocation, manager selection and multi-asset portfolio construction solutions for some of New Zealand’s largest institutional and quasi-government investors. Johnson also has extensive experience in portfolio analytics and risk management through his previous responsibilities in fund of funds products.
Johnson has a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of Auckland.
Fixed Income Analyst Benjamin Wilton
Bachelor of Arts in Economics
Ben's role as an analyst sees him working closely with the team to identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities, as well as the ongoing monitoring of the Fixed Interest Portfolio. He also assists the Global Quantitative team in assessing equity picks. Ben is also deeply involved in pulling together the monthly investment update and other communications.
Ben grew up in the Wairarapa, before heading to the United States to get a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. His time in America often brings another useful perspective to the investment team.
Manager, Portfolio Risk and Analytics Di Zhu
Bachelor of Commerce, CFA Charterholder
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, Di is responsible for managing proprietary and third-party systems and processes to provide the wider investment management team with portfolio risk analytics, performance, and attribution. He also works closely with the Fixed Income team and the Equity Dealing desk to execute trading & FX.
Separately, he oversees a range of internal and external reporting including client communications, and reports to the Investment Governance Committee.
Di graduated from Victoria University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Commerce, double majoring in Finance & Accounting.
Asset Allocation Strategist Peter Urbani
As Asset Allocation Strategist, Peter is responsible for the development and implementation of Kiwi Wealth’s Strategic Asset Allocation process. He is also responsible for maintaining and improving this process, working to improve our portfolio construction methodologies, input assumptions, tactical and overlay strategies, and scenario analysis. Additionally, he assists with External Manager selection and vetting.
Peter has nearly 3 decades of experience in Investment management across Zurich, South Africa, and New Zealand. His previous roles include Head of Investment Strategy, Head of Portfolio Management, Head of Research, Head of Portfolio Construction and Chief Investment Officer.
Peter is an expert in risk management and all forms of asymmetric downside risk measurement and management methods. Some of his code was included in Kevin Dowd's 'Measuring Market Risk' and he also served as Technical editor for one of Aaron Brown's books.
Responsible Investment Strategist Holly Marshall
As a Responsible Investing Strategist, Holly is accountable for the development and implementation of Kiwi Wealth’s Responsible Investment policies, process, and active ownership - from investment exclusions through to proxy voting, engagement, and wider collaboration on ESG issues.
Holly has a decade of experience in Chief of Staff, ESG, and Corporate Communications roles within the financial and technology sectors, in New York, London and Zurich. As a recent student, she was co-President of Columbia University’s Impact Investing club, connecting more than 350 graduate students with opportunities to learn and work with impact-focused early-stage funds, start-ups and NGOs globally. As an alumni, she continues to support the Board’s student-run fund.
Holly graduated from Columbia University with an MPA, with a concentration in international economic policy and sustainable finance. She also has a PGC from St Mary’s University, and a BA from Victoria, University of Wellington.
